Martin Brothers
Contracting, Inc. was founded in 1965 by brothers Nelson and Virgil Martin.
The brothers had been working for another builder that specialized in
building high-end custom homes, when they decided to venture out on their
own. As the business grew, the home sizes varied from small to quite large,
and Martin Brothers gained the reputation of building the finest custom
homes in Michiana. The brothers firmly believed that using the highest
quality materials available and exceeding industry standard building
practices would provide their customer's with the best home possible.
Carrying on those same practices today is Nelson's son Jeff, who purchased
the business in 1999.
Jeff
naturally grew up around the business. In the summer of 1976, at the age of
14, he started at the Martin Brothers working part-time. He did everything
from sweeping floors to swinging hammers and worked his way into ownership.
Starting out in the field gave him a great understanding of the techniques
involved in building high-end custom homes and he is proud to carry on the
Martin Brothers' love of home building. Jeff handles the day-to-day
operations, which includes managing as many as 13 people in the field, 4
office staff and a licensed architect. He is active in the Builders
Association of Elkhart County having served in many offices, including
President and is a member of the Board of Directors. Jeff holds the
designations (from the National Association of Home Builders) of Certified
Graduate Builder (CGB®), Certified Graduate Remodelor® (CGR), Graduate
Master Builder (GMB), Certified Green Professional (CGP) and Certified
Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). Nelson remains on staff, part-time, as an
invaluable resource of knowledge and experience. Virgil passed away in
August, 2011 and was active in the company up to his last day.
Martin
Brothers’ architect, Phil Jenkins began working for us, during the summer,
while in high school and college. After graduating from Ball State
University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1994, Phil worked for a
local architecture firm, obtaining his professional license in 1998. In
2002, Phil returned to Martin Brothers to lead the architectural design
team. Phil believes in client-centered design and works closely with each
client to design the built environment around their own unique personality,
family culture and architectural style. From the earliest point in the
design, Phil and the Martin Brothers' staff are there to assist owners
through the complete design and construction process. Surrounded by the
finest carpenters, proven subcontractors, quality suppliers and capable
designers we are able to offer creative and beautiful solutions to your most
challenging design problems. (We will work with your architect, if you have
one selected. We have worked with many fine architects on various projects
throughout the years.)
Since our
inception, Martin Brothers Contracting has created superior homes and
continues to reach new heights in our craft. We are on the forefront of
using innovative building techniques and equipping our homes with the latest
technology making each Martin Brothers built home a true masterpiece. We
hope that you choose to be a part of our extended family of happy Martin
Brother’s homeowners.
